On behalf of the entire ESVS team, we would like to thank you wholeheartedly for your active engagement in this year’s annual conference. With more than 1400 participants, an increasing number of members and 35 industry partners in the exhibition area, we were able to experience, that our society is a growing, vital and very active scientific community! Thank you for contributing to this success!
Together with you, having enriched the venue with your participation, we were able to present many controversies and create an inspiring platform for discussions and talks. We also welcomed a large number of non-European participants – actually the largest number ever. This is important, since medicine is global and the ESVS embraces the diversity of our planet. Two of the greatest highlights of the congress were organized in collaboration with the World Federation of Vascular Societies.
There are other highlights worth mentioning: The newly invented ESVS Academy, with a large number of courses and seminars. This new educational platform especially has attracted our young colleagues – most courses were fully booked! The presentation of five newly published clinical guidelines, the session organized by the French Society, and the vibrant trans-Atlantic debates were all exceptional.
It should not be forgotten, however, that the unique feature of our meeting is the presentation of never previously presented original research papers. This year we received 602 abstracts of the highest quality ever, since we waived the compulsory publication in the EJVES. It stands strong by its own, with the highest impact factor of all journals in vascular surgery (4.06). By changing the format, we could accept 172 oral presentations and 104 posters, and still maintain the highest quality in the plenary sessions.
With your active participation, you have played the most important role for the success of our meeting. On behalf of the ESVS we want to sincerely thank you for your efforts and we are certain that your patients will benefit from the new knowledge you have acquired.
Welcome back next year, to Valencia Spain, 25-28 September 2018!
