President ESVS

Henrik Sillesen is currently Professor and Head of Department of Vascular Surgery at Rigshospitalet, University of Copenhagen, one of the largest vascular departments in Europe. Henrik Sillesen has published 215 peer-review, published papers (pubmed) and has been cited over 8.000 times (H-index 40), giving more than 250 lectures at international meetings in 34 countries.

Henrik Sillesen is currently the President of the European Society for Vascular Surgery (ESVS), served secretary general for ESVS 2004-9, was the president of the Danish Heart Foundation 2004-8, the President of the World Federation of vascular Specialities 2009-10 and the President of the Danish Vascular Society 2002-4.

Eike Sebastian Debus is Professor for Surgery and Chair of the Department of Vascular Medicine, University of Hamburg-Eppendorf, Germany. Sebastian Debus is the current Secretary General of the European Society for Vascular Surgery. He was President of the German Vascular Society 2013/2014, chairs the Northern German Society of Surgery since 2013 and the Northern German Society for Vascular Medicine since 2017. He was member of the presidium of the German Society of Surgery 2013/2014. He served as chief editor of the `Journal of Wound healing´ (2000-2005), Gefässchirurgie, Springer (2004-2013), founding Editor of GefäßmedizinScan (Thieme) since 2014 and is member of the editorial board of varios international journals. His main research interests are vascular epidemiology and vascular care, aortic pathologies and peripheral occlusive disease. He is founder of the german vascular registry program and is engaged in various projects of the European Society for Vascular Surgery, editor of several textbooks and author/co-author of more than 250 peer reviewed papers.

Sonia Anand

Sonia Anand

Professor of Medicine and Epidemiology, and Director of the Population Genomics Program at McMaster University, Hamilton, Canada, and a vascular medicine specialist at Hamilton Health Sciences. She holds the Canada Research Chair in Ethnic Diversity and Cardiovascular Disease, and is the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario/Michael G DeGroote Chair in Population Health Research. Her present research focuses on the environmental and genetic determinants of vascular disease in populations of varying ancestral origin, and women and cardiovascular disease.

Professor Anand graduated as a Doctor of Medicine from McMaster University in 1992. She completed internal medicine training at McMaster University and a Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, Ottawa, in 1996. She received her master’s degree in clinical epidemiology in 1996 and PhD. in health research methodology in 2002, both at McMaster University. In 1996, Professor Anand was Principal Investigator of the WAVE trial in peripheral artery disease (PAD) patients. She is the PAD Lead Investigator of the COMPASS trial, and is an executive committee member of the VOYAGER PAD trial. Her work is widely published amongst academic and peer-reviewed journals, and she teaches clinical epidemiology courses in methodology and cardiovascular disease at McMaster University.

Rupert Bauersachs

Rupert Bauersachs

Prof.R.Bauersachs is Director of Vascular Medicine Darmstadt since 2003.

He received his MD from Munich University, was Postdoc in Pharmacology, and AHA-Research Fellow at USC, Los Angeles. Residencies in Internal Medicine in Munich, Universities of Mainz and Frankfurt and is certified for Internal and Vascular Medicine, Haemostaseology, Diabetology, Phlebology.

In 1999 he became faculty member and Head of Vascular Medicine for Frankfurt University. Since 2012, he has a Professorship for Vulnerable Individuals and Populations at Mainz University. He is council member for German Societies of Angiology and Phlebology.

Will Hiatt

Will Hiatt

William R. Hiatt, MD, is a Professor of Medicine in Vascular Medicine in the Division of Cardiology, University of Colorado School of Medicine.

He is Chief Science Officer of CPC Clinical Research which is a university-affiliated, non-profit Academic Research Organization (ARO).

Dr. Hiatt has over 230 peer-reviewed publications. His current trials focus on developing new therapeutics for peripheral artery disease addressing both ischemic limb and cardiovascular risk.

He is PI of the Voyager-PAD trial.

Vincent Jongkind

Vincent Jongkind

Vascular surgeon working at Dijklander Hospital, Hoorn, The Netherlands.

He started his vascular surgical training in 2010 in Amsterdam, Hoorn and Alkmaar. In 2013 he joined the council of EVST as Dutch representative and was chosen secretary general of EVST in 2016. In that role he represented EVST in the ESVS Executive Committee. In 2019 he joined the ESVS Academy committee which coordinates and organizes educational activities of ESVS.

He has a great interest in periprocedural anticoagulation ( multiple studies published, co-leader of the international multidisciplinary ACTION study group investigating on the topic)
