Presentations & Guidelines

Fast-Track Oral Presentations

  • The complete schedule of oral presentations will be announced one month prior to the congress on the Annual Meeting Website and App
  • Each speaker will have 4 minutes for presentation + 2 minutes for answering questions from the Jury
  • Each session will be led by five Jury members. The top-scored presentations will be invited to present an extended version of their presentation in one of the plenary scientific sessions of the Annual Meeting, on Thursday or Friday.
  • Presenting authors will be contacted by the Annual Meeting Staff per email and per phone before lunch Wednesday 20 September regarding the acceptance of their abstract for extended presentation and session details.

Poster Presentations

  • Posters should be finalised & printed prior to the meeting
  • Posters can be mounted as from Tuesday, 19 September (14:00) and must be displayed by Wednesday, 20 September (13:00) at the very latest
  • The scoring of the Posters will take place on Wednesday, 20 September 2017 from 16:00 to 17:30. Poster presenters are asked to be next to their poster to give a brief presentation and answer questions from the Jury
  • Presenting authors of posters accepted for the Poster Prize Session will be notified per email and per phone on Thursday, 21 September; and announced in the Annual Meeting App

Important Dates

  • January 16, 2017: Abstract Submission Opens
  • April 12, 2017 – 14:00 CET (Central European Time)
  • April 17 – May 1, 2017: Review Period
  • Mid-May: Notification of Acceptance
  • June 1, 2017: Early Bird Registration Deadline
  • June 15, 2017: Deadline to confirm acceptance of the presentation, presenting author and submit agreement form.

New this year
This year’s Annual Meeting will consist of not three, but four days of knowledge sharing! Furthermore, a total of 160 abstracts will be selected for short oral presentation to be presented to the audience on day one. The top-scored 48 presentations will be invited to deliver an extended presentation of their research in the coming plenary sessions. In addition, 100+ abstracts will be selected as poster presentations.

Abstract Categories
Abstracts should address all aspects of vascular surgery. The submitter is required to select the most appropriate category for the abstract in the online submission form. All entries should fall under one of the below categories:

  • Thoraco-abdominal Aortic Disease
  • Abdominal Aortic Diseases
  • Venous Diseases (including Malformations)
  • Vascular Access

Abstract-Based Sessions

Fast-Track Abstract Sessions
Fast-paced abstract sessions will take place on Tuesday, 19th September 2017 (13:00 – 18:00).

Time for presentation will be 4 minutes, followed by 2 minutes for questions from the Jury. The 48 top-scoring presentations (of 160 presented abstracts) will be selected to present an extended version of their abstract in one of the Plenary Scientific Sessions of the Annual Meeting, either on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday that week.

Please note: All presenting authors of abstracts selected for oral communication should prepare one short and one extended presentation in advance and be available all four days of the congress in the case they are selected to feature in a plenary session.


During the congress, ESVS offers a number of awards related to submission of an abstract for the congress.

ESVS Oral Prize Session
Seven revised abstracts will be selected to be presented orally during the Prize Session. Authors of abstracts selected for the Prize Session will be communicated their date and time of presentation on May 15. These will not present a short version of their abstract during the Fast-Paced Abstract Sessions.

  • Prizes will be awarded to the 3 Best Oral Presentation
  • Awards consist of a grant of EUR 600 for the 1st prize, EUR 400 for the 2nd prize and EUR 200 for the 3rd prize and a commemorative certificate*.
  • Abstracts are judged by a Scientific Review Committee.
  • The Prize Winners will be notified during the Annual Meeting.

* The award prize will be paid after the congress. Award winners will be contacted immediately after the congress with further instructions on how to receive their prize.

ESVS Poster Prize session
The scoring of the Posters will take place on Wednesday, 20 September 2017 from 16:00 to 17:30. Poster presenters are asked to be next to their poster to give a brief presentation of their research and answer questions from the Jury.
All Poster presenters are required to prepare a 3-slide PowerPoint presentation, in case they are selected for the Prize Poster Session (exact timing will be announced in due time). Scorers will select 10 posters for the Prize Session and notify the authors per email and per phone on Wednesday, 20 September 2017 during the evening.
During the Poster Prize Session, each presenter will be allocated 3 minutes for presentation and 2 minutes to answer questions.

  • Prizes will be awarded to the three top-scoring posters presented at the Prize Poster Session
  • The Presenting authors will be granted EUR 300 for the 1st prize, EUR 200 for the 2nd prize or EUR 100 for the 3rd prize and a commemorative certificate*.
  • Winning posters are selected during the congress by a scientific jury. Choices are made based on scientific excellence of the abstract, the presentation of the scientific information on the poster and the final oral presentation.
