ESVS Congress 2017

Type of sessions

The European Society for Vascular Surgery is excited to provide all vascular specialists with a four-day meeting on the latest innovations in research and developments in clinical practice and care. The different features of its Scientific Programme are outlined here below.
The scientific programme forms the central part of the congress. You will be able to browse the provisional programme of the 31st ESVS Congress very soon.
Further information on symposia, industry sessions and workshops will be added once they become available, as well as biographies of the speakers.

The ESVS Congress is structured according to the schedule below:

ESVS Science

ESVS offers a variety of different sessions designed to appeal to a wide range of congress participants. Please find below an overview of the sessions that will be held at the 31st ESVS Congress in Lyon 2017.

Fast-Track Abstract Sessions
The Fast-Track Abstract Sessions will take place on Tuesday, 19 September 2017, from 13:00 to 18:00.
The Fast-Track Abstract Sessions will feature a total of 160 oral presentations, selected among the best submitted abstracts. Each presenter will have 4 minutes to present, followed by 2 minutes for questions from the Jury. The 48 top-scoring presentations will be selected to present an extended version of their abstract in one of the Plenary Scientific Sessions later during the Annual Meeting.

Honorary Lectures
Volodos Honorary Lecture
The keynote lecture features a renowned speaker invited to present on a topic of interest appealing to all congress participants. The keynote session will take place on Wednesday, 20 September 2017, right after the Presidential Address. The presenter and title of the Volodos Keynote Lecture will be announced soon. The keynote lecture is named to honour the memory of Professor Nicolai Leontyevich Volodos, Honorary Member of ESVS and known for performing endovascular stent-graft surgery for the very first time.

Janet Powell Inaugural Honorary Lecture
The first Janet Powell Honorary Lecture will be delivered by Prof. Janet Powell herself and will focus on evidence in vascular surgery.

Keynote Lectures
Six plenary keynote lectures will be delivered by eminent scientists as introductory lectures to six scientific sessions.

Nurses Sessions
The Annual Meeting will feature a dedicated track for Vascular Nurses, which will start on Wednesday, 20 September in the afternoon and end on Thursday at 16:00. All Nurses Plenary Sessions scheduled on Thursday will benefit French-English simultaneous translation.

Scientific Sessions
The Plenary Scientific Sessions represent the very best of science in vascular care. Each Session will focus on one aspect of vascular surgery and be constituted of the top-scoring abstracts presented in the fast-paced abstract sessions on the first day of the Annual Meeting.

Approximately 100 abstracts will be selected to be presented in poster format in a specific area and will stay on display for the entire Annual Meeting. Participants are strongly encouraged to go through the posters as they represent up-to-date research and knowledge in the field of vascular surgery.

Prize Sessions
Oral Prize Session
Ten revised abstracts will be selected by the Scientific Committee to present an oral communication in the Prize Session. These abstracts will not present a short version of their abstract during the Fast-Paced Abstract Sessions. A 1st, 2nd and 3rd Prize will be selected during this session.

Poster Prize Session
The Scientific Committee will select approximately 100 abstracts for Poster Presentation at the 31st Annual Meeting. Authors of abstracts selected for poster presentation will be invited to be present during the Poster Scoring Session on Wednesday, 20 September. The authors of the 10 top-scoring posters will be invited to deliver a short oral presentation during the Poster Prize Session. A 1st, 2nd and 3rd Prize will be selected during this session.

ESVS Symposium
A scientific symposium gathers leading experts in a specific field of vascular surgery. Up to 5 speakers present on a particular innovation or technique in this field. Each presentation is followed by a 5-minute Q&A session with the audience.

Joint Symposium
For another year, the Society will hold several Joint Symposia with fellow Vascular Societies, as well as the local National Society.

Industry Symposium
Industry Symposia are organised by the Industry and are not part of the official Scientific Programme, although they are scientifically oriented as they focus on current trends and innovations in the field of Vascular Surgery. Industry Symposia will take place during the early morning, lunch or late afternoon.

ESVS Academy

Workshops are educational interactive courses that enable the participant to practice a certain procedure hands-on, under the close supervision of experts in their field. Several mini-workshops (60 to 120 minutes) will be held on Tuesday, September 19 to Friday, September 21. Primetime ESVS workshops will take place following the scientific sessions, which end at 4.00 pm. This way, they do not compete with the other components of the scientific programme. As each workshop will have limited availability, the Society encourages participants to register early in order to avoid disappointment.

Seminars consist of short lectures on non-scientific focused topics, such as paper writing, leadership, upcoming EU – regulations and research funding options, learning and development, and much more.
