During the course, participants will be presented to an intensive series of short lectures focussed on technical aspects of the different US examinations, commenting them while performing one in the same room on selected patients. After the break, participants will have the opportunity to practice their skills under supervision (4 participants /1 tutor/ station) on patients and silicone models for US guided puncture. Hands-on sessions will take 5 hours each day.
The course is preceded by an on-line blended learning module that will introduce the participants to the basic knowledge of ultrasound and the standards of the different examinations. Most prominent topics and all presentations will be available on-line to enable participants to prepare for the hands-on workshop.
What will you learn?
The objective of this course is to make the participant aware of the science behind, technical and practical aspects of some of the most common vascular ultrasound examinations, including arteries of the lower limb, carotid and vertebral arteries, veins, bypasses, EVAR surveillance and US guided puncture. It is addressed mainly to the novice trainees and will allow them to gain in depth and up to date knowledge of vascular ultrasound examinations. Ultrasound exams offer the vascular surgeon the possibility to get an accurate and rapid diagnosis of patients with arterial and venous diseases. However, this powerful diagnostic tool is not in the hands of vascular surgeons in many European countries.
Who should attend?
The course is designed for vascular surgeons, vascular surgeons in training and vascular nurses and technologists interested in vascular ultrasound. No prior ultrasound experience is required but basic knowledge to vascular anatomy and physiology is expected. All lectures, workshops and course materials will be in English.
