Aneurysm, if not treated, can lead to fatal rupture. Different hospital treating patients with RAAA in the different way: open, or endovascular. The results in centers of Excellency with high patient volume with both techniques are good. There is always need to improve the results using the adjunct techniques in treatment of ruptured aorta.
The workshop is comprised of several different workstations. In the WS I: participants will work on radiological Workstations for planning the treatment of patients with ruptured aortic pathologies. Furthermore, they will learn to plan and size the prosthesis if the treatment is endovascular. In the WS II is surgical techniques model: the participants will work on plastic models, will create sutureless anastomosis on graft open surgical models, deploy practical balloon in plastic pulsating aortic flow model. The Workstations III’s focus is on abdominal compartment syndrome, early identification, and treatment. Participants will practice different techniques for open abdomen treatment on dummy models. The Workstation IV is with focus on simulation. Participants will perform one procedure on generic case, and one that they took with them to the course.
The course will cover the key steps in treatment of acute aortic rupture (thoracic, thoracoabdominal, and abdominal). The treatment starts form announcement to post-operative patient care. The benefit for the participants will be to be aware that the hospital algorithm based on standardized operating and management procedure is the key for successful treatment and reduction of mortality and morbidity in treatment of ruptured aorta. At the end of the workshop, candidates should have assimilated the treatment key points, completed an algorithm adapted to their respective centres and to “confident” whilst dealing on with patients suffering aortic rupture.
