The EJVES is a leading surgical journal with a current impact factor of 7.069. We are looking for a motivated and ambitious young member of the European Society for Vascular Surgery (ESVS) to reinforce the Editorial Staff as Assistant Editor (AsE) from January 2022 for a 1 year term with potential renewal.

Who can apply?

Young and academic vascular surgeons with interest in scientific reporting and the publication process. Although this is a junior position, you should have a good general knowledge of vascular surgery (eg. last year resident or young specialist) and experience in scientific writing including understanding of research methodology and reporting standards (eg. PhD). In addition you should be an experienced reviewer for scientific journals, preferably for the EJVES.

What is expected from you?

You will have a unique opportunity for intimate insight into the processes of a premium scientific journal from submission through selection, scientific and formal editing up to eventual publication. Therefore, good communication skills with both the authors and the editorial team are needed. You will work closely with the Style editor in order to ensure uniform presentation and scientific standards of potential publication. Therefore, a dedicated attitude with diligent attention to detail is expected. In addition, your working situation should allow for this exciting but also somewhat time consuming additional workload.

What can you expect?

You will work as important member of the editorial team of a leading scientific journal and participate at monthly telephone calls and at least two physical meetings per year (including access to the ESVS scientific annual meeting). You will be personally coached by the Style editor, and it is expected that you plan and perform a supervised research project in the field of scientific publishing during your term with the EJVES that should be presented at the Editors’ annual strategic meeting.

How to apply?

Please send your application and your motivation letter by email to the ESVS office (info@esvs.org) by December 3rd. Your application should be accompanied by your CV, the list of publications and a letter of support from your employer/institution.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an online interview with the Senior Editors and the Style editor. Candidates will be informed of the election result before the end of the year. The actual work as AsE is planned to start in January 2022.

Any questions?
